2010 Summer Institute
2010 Summer Institute
for Teachers Pre-K through University
Dear Prospective Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in the High Desert Writing Project. The HDWP, which began in 2006, is Albuquerque’s site of the National Writing Project, a project that has served K-16 teachers of writing for over thirty years. All National Writing Project sites focus on the core missions of improving the teaching of writing and the use of writing across the disciplines by offering high-quality professional development programs for educators in their service areas, K–16 and across the curriculum. One way this is accomplished is through a month long Summer Institute held annually at every NWP site in the country. The HDWP provides participants, at no cost, with six graduate level credit hours in the College of Education’s Department of Language, Literacy & Sociocultural Studies.
This year’s HDWP Summer Institute will be held:
•Saturday, May 8, 2010, 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (required orientation)
•Tuesdays through Fridays, beginning Thursday June 3 - July 2, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Summer Institute)
NWP sites share a national program model that includes:
•developing a leadership cadre of local teachers who have participated in invitational summer institutes in the teaching of writing
•delivering customized inservice programs for local schools and
•providing continuing education and research opportunities for teachers.
NWP sites may conduct programs for youth, parents and community members, and for administrators. Each NWP site is housed in a college or university and is constituted as a school/university partnership that identifies, celebrates, and enhances the professional role of successful classroom teachers.
We look forward to your application. For more information about the National Writing Project, please go to http://www.nwp.org.
Sincerely,
Dr. Rick Meyer
HDWP Director
